D (1995) is Kenji Eno's full-motion video horror game for the 3DO, played in a single two-hour sitting with no saves and no pause, which sold about a million copies in Japan.
Laura Harris goes to a Los Angeles hospital after her father, Dr. Richter Harris, has gone on a killing spree, and finds the building has become a medieval castle. Pre-rendered video shows her moving through it. The game ends after two hours of real time, and the ending depends on what the player has done.
Eno directed and wrote it at Warp over about a year, rendering the video on Amiga 4000 computers, and added violence and cannibalism when the first plot seemed dull. Saturn and PlayStation versions followed. When Sony made far fewer PlayStation copies than the roughly 100,000 pre-ordered, Eno said his later games would be on Sega platforms.
