1996 · Survival Horror · Sega Saturn
Enemy Zero (1996) is Kenji Eno's Sega Saturn horror game set on a space station full of invisible creatures, which the player can only track by sound.
Laura Lewis wakes from cryogenic sleep aboard the research station AKI to find the crew being killed. Video-based puzzle exploration alternates with real-time first-person sections in which the enemies cannot be seen; the pitch of a tone tells the player how close they are and from which direction. Guns must be charged before every shot, and overcharging resets them.
It was planned for the PlayStation, but after his dispute with Sony, Eno announced at the 1996 PlayStation Expo that it would be a Saturn exclusive. Development took about nine months. Sega took over publishing in the West after Acclaim withdrew, and a Windows version followed in 1998.
