Panzer Dragoon II Zwei

1996 · Rail Shooter · Sega Saturn

Overview

Panzer Dragoon II Zwei (1996) is Team Andromeda's Saturn rail shooter, in which the rider's dragon evolves through several forms depending on the player's scores.

Deep Dive

Lundi fires his gun while the dragon locks on with lasers, and a Berserk attack, charged by shooting down enemies, hits everything on screen. Levels 2 to 4 branch into different routes. The dragon evolves through six forms, with a seventh for the final boss, and finishing the game opens the Pandora's Box extras menu.

Developer Story

Tomohiro Kondo directed it with a team of 15 to 20, reusing the first game's engine; development took under a year from mid-1995. Yayoi Wachi composed the music, much of it played on the Saturn's own sound hardware. Sega Saturn Magazine gave it 95%.

Did You Know?

  • A system called ADEC adjusted enemy behaviour to how well the player was doing.
  • Electronic Gaming Monthly ranked it 90th in its 1997 list of the best games of all time.
