Overview

Miner 2049er (1982) is Bill Hogue's Atari 8-bit platformer, in which Mountie Bounty Bob claims every floor of a uranium mine against the clock — ported to 22 systems.

Deep Dive

Bounty Bob, a Mountie, has chased a criminal into a series of uranium mines. On each level he must walk over every section of every floor to claim it before time runs out, while avoiding the creatures in the mines. Later levels add transporters, slides, and a cannon fired by collecting TNT. Bob has five lives. The Atari computer version has ten levels, an unusually large game that needed a 16 KB cartridge, twice the standard size.

Developer Story

Bill Hogue designed and programmed the game at Big Five Software in Van Nuys, California, and it was released in December 1982. The sequel, Bounty Bob Strikes Back!, followed in 1985.
