Overview

Jumpman (1983) is Randy Glover's platform game for Epyx, in which Jumpman climbs ladders and ropes to defuse bombs planted around a base on Jupiter.

Deep Dive

Bombs have been planted across three buildings of a base on Jupiter, and Jumpman has to defuse them all, jumping and climbing ladders and ropes while avoiding falls and "smart" darts.

Developer Story

Randy Glover designed the game, and Epyx, then still called Automated Simulations, released it on 26 February 1983 for the Atari 8-bit, followed by Commodore 64, Apple II and IBM PC versions. It sold about 40,000 copies on the Atari and C64 through 1987.

Did You Know?

  • Compute! wrote that it "easily conquers that skepticism and establishes itself as a software classic".
  • Jumpman Junior, a 12-level cartridge version, was made for players without a disk drive.
