Overview

Trojan (1986) is Takashi Nishiyama's post-apocalyptic sword-and-shield game for Capcom, whose NES version added Capcom's first attempt at a one-on-one fighting mode.

Deep Dive

After a nuclear war, warlord spirits possess the survivors and rule under Achilles, and the warrior Trojan rebels against him, fighting through pirates and gladiators. One button swings his sword and the other raises his shield to block, but magic balls can knock both away and leave him fighting bare-handed. Each of the six stages has a sub-boss and an end boss, and the true ending appears only on a second playthrough.

Developer Story

Takashi Nishiyama directed and designed the game, and it reached arcades in March 1986, with Romstar releasing it in North America. The NES version, released that December in Japan, added power-ups, hidden rooms, an extra boss and a two-player versus mode.
