Overview

Legendary Wings (1986) is Capcom's two-player shooter, in which winged warriors fly overhead stages and then fight on foot in side-scrolling sections to destroy the supercomputer Dark.

Deep Dive

In the future the alien supercomputer Dark turns against humanity, and two young warriors are given wings by the god Ares to destroy it. Each stage starts as an overhead flying section and continues as a side-scrolling section on foot, ending with a boss, and optional "Danger" and "Lucky" areas appear along the way. Power-ups raise the warriors' firepower through five levels.

Developer Story

Takashi Nishiyama directed the game, with Tamayo Kawamoto composing the music. Capcom released it in November 1986, and the NES version, with longer levels and different bosses, reached North America in 1988.

  • Its heroine, Michelle Heart, later appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.
  • Hardcore Gaming 101 called the arcade version "remarkably average" but rated the NES version one of the better shooters on the console.
