Overview

Tomba! (1997) is the PlayStation platform adventure from Whoopee Camp, the studio Tokuro Fujiwara founded after leaving Capcom, built around 130 optional quests called events.

Deep Dive

Tomba bites enemies' backs and throws them, and also fights with flails and boomerangs. Play is mostly side-on, with some isometric areas and walls that let him climb between foreground and background. Completing events earns Adventure Points.

Developer Story

Fujiwara directed, produced and led the design, with music by Harumi Fujita. Critics praised its controls, visuals and variety. A sequel, Tomba! 2 (1999), sold less, and Whoopee Camp disbanded after it.
