Overview

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989) is Konami's four-player arcade beat 'em up based on the cartoon, in which the Turtles rescue April O'Neil and Splinter from Shredder.

Deep Dive

Each player takes one of the four Turtles and fights the Foot Clan, Shredder and Krang to free April and Splinter. Outside Japan it was sold mainly as a dedicated four-player cabinet; Japan got a two-player conversion kit.

Developer Story

Konami released it in North America in October 1989, drawing on the 1987 animated series. About 25,000 cabinets had sold by May 1990. In Europe it was called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.

Did You Know?

It was the highest-grossing dedicated arcade game of 1990 in the US and Konami's highest-grossing arcade game.
The NES version, retitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game, added two levels and new bosses and sold over a million copies.
