Overview

Pit-Fighter (1990) is Atari Games' street-fighting game built from digitised footage of live actors, in which up to three players brawl through 15 matches in front of a rowdy crowd.

Deep Dive

Three fighters — Buzz, Ty and Kato — take on opponents such as Southside Jim, Heavy Metal and Mad Miles across 15 matches, with up to three players at once. Every third fight is a Grudge Match, and the last is the Championship against the Masked Warrior. The crowd joins in, attacking fighters, dropping weapons and shoving players back into the fight, and a power pill briefly boosts strength. Pressing all three buttons triggers a super move.

Developer Story

Gary Stark and Mark Stephen Pierce designed the game, and Atari Games released it in August 1990, selling 5,500 arcade units in the US. Tengen published home versions from 1991, and a planned Pit Fighter II was never released.
