Doomdark's Revenge

1984 · Strategy · ZX Spectrum

Overview

Doomdark's Revenge (1984) is Mike Singleton's sequel to The Lords of Midnight, a larger and busier war-and-adventure game in which the lords of the Icemark act on their own.

Deep Dive

Luxor's Moonring lets the player see through the eyes of allied characters and move them each day. Five peoples — Fey, Barbarians, Dwarfs, Giants and Icelords — can be won over or fought, and lords travel and react without waiting to be recruited, while Shareth tries to win them to her side. Victory ranges from rescuing Morkin to destroying Shareth; the computer only needs Luxor dead.

Developer Story

Singleton followed The Lords of Midnight with the same mechanics and far more characters and places, including an underground tunnel world. Beyond Software released it on the ZX Spectrum in 1984, with Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64 versions in 1986. It was a commercial hit.
