Overview

Cadash (1990) is Taito's arcade action-RPG platformer, in which up to four players — fighter, mage, priestess and ninja — on linked cabinets level up while rescuing a kidnapped princess.

Deep Dive

The Balrog kidnaps Princess Salassa and carries her to Castle Cadash, where he plans a ritual to make himself invincible, and King Dilsarl promises his kingdom to whoever saves her. The game combines side-scrolling platforming with role-playing statistics, experience levels, gold and magic. Players choose a fighter, mage, priestess or ninja, and four players can join in by linking arcade cabinets. The five stages end in Castle Cadash itself.

Developer Story

Hiroshi Tsujino directed and designed the game, and Taito released it in Japan in March 1990. Working Designs translated the TurboGrafx-16 version, which removed the arcade time limit, and a Genesis version followed in 1992.

Did You Know?

  • Game Machine named it the most successful table arcade unit in its 1 May 1990 issue.
  • The Genesis version keeps only the fighter and the mage.
