Overview
Arkanoid (1986) is Taito's block breaker descended from Breakout, in which the Vaus paddle bounces a ball through walls of bricks towards the boss, DOH.
Deep Dive
The player moves the Vaus with a control knob, bouncing the ball into bricks. Some bricks release power-ups, and the final round pits the Vaus against DOH. The NES and MSX versions came with their own paddle controller.
Developer Story
Akira Fujita and Hiroshi Tsujino designed it, with music by Hisayoshi Ogura. Taito released it in Japan in July 1986, and Romstar in North America. It was the highest-grossing arcade conversion kit in the US in 1987, and sequels began with Revenge of Doh (1987).
