Overview

Black Tiger (1987) is Capcom's platform game, in which a barbarian hunts three demonic dragons, freeing wise men and spending Zenny coins on better weapons and armour.

Deep Dive

Three evil dragons bring darkness and destruction to a kingdom, and a barbarian sets out to slay them across eight levels that scroll in eight directions. Rescued wise men hand out rewards, mostly Zenny coins, which buy weapon and armour upgrades, keys for treasure chests and anti-poison potions. The Japanese version, Black Dragon, is harder, with falling rocks and higher prices.

Developer Story

Yoshiki Okamoto produced the game, Masayuki Akahori programmed it and Tamayo Kawamoto composed the music. Capcom released it on 1 August 1987, and U.S. Gold brought it to the Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum in 1989.

Did You Know?

  • It was one of ten games in a $2,000,000 deal between U.S. Gold and Japanese coin-op makers.
  • Its planned release around October 1986 slipped because of "programming placement difficulties".
