Overview

Vendetta (1991) is Konami's street-gang beat 'em up, known in Japan as Crime Fighters 2, in which four Cobras fight the Dead End Gang to rescue Kate.

Deep Dive

Blood, Hawk, Boomer and Sledge fight through waves of enemies with separate punch and kick buttons, picking up shotguns, bats, knives and bottles. Hitting enemies while they are down was new to the genre. After the last boss, the earlier bosses return together, and then the game loops at a higher difficulty.

Developer Story

Satoru Okamoto directed it, with music by Michiru Yamane and Hideaki Shikama. Released in July 1991 in Japan, it was the top-grossing new video game on RePlay's chart that September. Hamster re-released it in 2021.

Did You Know?

  • Outside Asia, an enemy's sexual grabbing attacks were cut, most heavily in the US.
  • Sinclair User named it Best Beat 'Em Up of 1991, jointly with WWF WrestleFest.
