1997 · Strategy · PC
Total Annihilation (1997) is Chris Taylor's real-time strategy game for Cavedog, with height-mapped terrain, streaming resources and an orchestral score by Jeremy Soule.
Players build bases and armies, drawing Metal and Energy as a continuous stream rather than in batches. Its terrain is a height-mapped surface. Jeremy Soule's score, played by the 95-piece Northwest Sinfonia, changes with combat and construction.
Taylor was lead designer and Ron Gilbert producer. It came out in September 1997, and two expansions followed in 1998. It had sold over 1.5 million copies by 2002.
