Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2

1994 · Platform · Genesis

Overview

Sparkster (1994) is Konami's Genesis sequel to Rocket Knight Adventures, in which Sparkster sets out to rescue Princess Cherry from Axel Gear and King Gedol.

Deep Dive

The sword now attacks only at close range, maximum health drops from eight hearts to five, and the rocket pack charges itself and adds a screw attack. A slot machine hands out power-ups or bombs. Six stages each end with a boss, and seven hidden Keys to the Seal unlock a golden form needed for the true ending.

Developer Story

Yasushi Takano directed it, with Shiori Satoh and Noboru Shirasu designing. Reviews were positive but less enthusiastic than for the first game; GamePro called it "a good progression from the original" but noted slowdown in later levels.

Did You Know?

  • A separate SNES game, also called Sparkster, came out the same year but does not continue this story.
  • Akira Yamaoka and Michiru Yamane composed the music.
