Overview

Side Arms (1986) is Capcom's horizontal shooter, in which two Mobilsuit pilots fire left and right with separate buttons and can merge their suits into one eight-way-firing machine.

Deep Dive

The alien Bozon empire attacks Earth, and Lt. Henry and Sgt. Sanders fight back in Mobilsuits, alone or together. The eight-way joystick moves the suit, separate buttons fire left and right, and a third switches between weapons such as a shotgun and a mega bazooka. Collecting α and β power-ups merges a suit with its ally to fire in eight directions.

Developer Story

Capcom released the game in Japan on 6 November 1986, and it was the ninth most successful table arcade unit in Game Machine's February 1987 chart. The PC Engine version followed in 1989, and Probe Software made European home computer versions.

Did You Know?

  • Its full title is Hyper Dyne Side Arms.
  • Capcom made the PC Engine version, but NEC Avenue published it to avoid offending Nintendo, according to composer Takashi Tateishi.
