Shock Wave
1994 · Space Shooter · 3DO
Overview
Shock Wave (1994) is Electronic Arts' 3DO combat flight game, in which an F-177 fighter fends off an alien invasion between full-motion video scenes.
Deep Dive
The F-177 is armed with a laser and homing missiles and hovers automatically, so it cannot crash. Ten missions each end with a boss, framed by full-motion video that EGM said added to the game rather than dominating it.
Developer Story
EA's Advanced Technology Group made it, and it came out in North America in June 1994. Later versions, retitled Shockwave Assault, combined it with the expansion for PC, PlayStation and Saturn. Reviews were mixed.
