Overview

Psycho Fox (1989) is Vic Tokai's Master System platformer, in which a fox uses a Shinto stick to become a monkey, hippo or tiger on the way to overthrowing the evil deity Madfox Daimyōjin.

Deep Dive

Madfox Daimyōjin has taken over the shrine of the fox deity Inari and corrupted the land, and a young fox is chosen to defeat him. Each level runs left to right through crowds of enemies. A Shinto stick transforms the hero into three other animals: the hippo is slow and jumps low but smashes special blocks, the monkey jumps highest and the tiger runs fastest. The bird ally Bird Fly can be thrown like a boomerang, and if the player is hit while carrying it, the bird flies off instead of a life being lost.

Developer Story

Directed by Toshihisa Hasegawa and programmed by Shoji Suzuki, Psycho Fox was released in Europe in December 1989 and in North America in May 1990. Sega Power and S: The Sega Magazine both scored it 93%.
