Overview

Pooyan (1982) is Konami's arcade shooter, designed by Tokuro Fujiwara, in which a mother pig in a lift shoots down the balloons of the wolves that kidnapped her piglets.

Deep Dive

Mama, a pig whose babies have been kidnapped by wolves, rides a lift up and down. One button fires arrows and throws meat. In the first round she shoots the balloons the wolves float down on; in the second the wolves try to push a boulder over the cliff edge. Mama loses a life if a rock hits her, a wolf eats her on the ladders or the boulder crushes her.

Developer Story

Tokuro Fujiwara designed the game, and Konami released it in Japan in October 1982, with Stern Electronics distributing it in North America. Datasoft converted it to the Atari 8-bit and Commodore 64 in 1983, and versions for the Atari 2600, MSX and Famicom followed.
