Lethal Enforcers (1992) is Konami's light gun game built from digitised photographs, whose realistic violence drew attention in the 1993 US Senate hearings that helped prompt the ESRB.
The player starts with a .38 revolver and can pick up a .357 Magnum, shotgun, assault rifle or grenade launcher. Each of the six stages ends with a boss, and shooting civilians or fellow officers lowers the player's rank.
Konami released it in North American arcades in September 1992, and it became one of the five highest-grossing dedicated arcade games of 1993 in the US. Genesis, Sega CD and SNES versions followed, and a sequel, Lethal Enforcers II: Gun Fighters. It helped popularise digitised sprites in light gun games until Virtua Cop moved the genre to polygons.
