Knights of the Round

1991 · Beat 'em up · Arcade

Overview

Knights of the Round (1991) is Capcom's Arthurian beat 'em up, in which Arthur, Lancelot and Perceval level up as they fight to overthrow the evil king Garibaldi.

Deep Dive

Arthur pulls Excalibur from the stone, and Merlin sends him with Lancelot and Perceval to overthrow the evil king Garibaldi and unite Britain. Seven stages each end in a boss. Players block by pressing attack and pushing away just as an enemy strikes, which also grants a moment of invincibility, and can ride horses to trample enemies. Arthur is balanced and strongest on horseback, Lancelot is the fastest, and Perceval the strongest.

Developer Story

Capcom released the game in North America on 27 November 1991, with music by Isao Abe, and the Super NES version followed in 1994.

Did You Know?

  • Game Machine listed it as the most popular arcade game in Japan for two weeks in early 1992.
  • The Super NES version sold only 5,225 copies in Japan, according to Famitsu.
