Overview

Kirby's Dream Course (1994) is HAL's isometric mini golf game in which Kirby is the ball, reworked from an unreleased game called Special Tee Shot.

Deep Dive

Players aim and launch Kirby towards the hole, knocking out enemies on the way to collect stars. Some defeated enemies give Kirby powers, such as a tornado or a UFO form.

Developer Story

HAL and Nintendo EAD made it, and Nintendo released it in Japan in September 1994. Critics praised its unusual design and humour, though some found it frustrating. IGN ranked it 38th among the best SNES games.

Did You Know?

  • HAL designed it in 1992 as Special Tee Shot with its own characters, then shelved it after Kirby's success on the Game Boy.
  • In Japan it was called Kirby Ball.
