Overview

Heart of Africa (1985) is Danielle Bunten Berry's follow-up to The Seven Cities of Gold, an exploration game set in 1890 in search of a lost pharaoh's tomb.

Deep Dive

The player lands from a steamer north of Cairo in January 1890 and sets out to find the Lost Tomb of Pharaoh Ahnk Ahnk. Along the way they trade for supplies, keep a diary, consult the map and leave caches. The tomb's location changes with every game.

Developer Story

Bunten Berry designed it at Ozark Softscape in the style of The Seven Cities of Gold, and Electronic Arts published it for the Commodore 64. Computer Gaming World praised its graphics and side quests.

Did You Know?

  • Unlike Seven Cities of Gold, it has only one map, as Compute! pointed out.
  • Ahoy! thought it too easy, since the tomb could be found by accident.
