Front Mission

1995 · Strategy RPG · SNES

Overview

Front Mission (1995) is the first game in Square's mech tactics series, set on Huffman Island in 2090, where wanzers take damage part by part.

Deep Dive

On Huffman Island in 2090 the OCU and the USN fight over the territory in the Huffman Conflicts. The player commands mechs called wanzers, each built from four parts: a body, two arms and legs. Losing the body takes a wanzer out of the fight, while damage to arms or legs only weakens it. Weapons are divided into melee, short-range, long-range and support fire.

Developer Story

Toshiro Tsuchida directed and wrote the game, Yoshitaka Amano provided artwork, and Yoko Shimomura and Noriko Matsueda composed the music. G-Craft developed it and Square released it in Japan on 24 February 1995. It sold more than 500,000 copies there.
