Overview

Dragon Warrior Monsters (1998) is the Game Boy Dragon Quest spin-off in which Terry recruits monsters with meat and breeds them into stronger ones.

Deep Dive

Terry sets out to rescue his sister Milly, kidnapped when they were children. Instead of defeating monsters, he wins them over by offering meat in battle, and can breed two monsters into a stronger one.

Developer Story

Tose developed it and Enix released it in Japan in September 1998 as Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry no Wonderland. Eidos published it in the West in 2000.

Did You Know?

  • Critics often compared it to Pokémon; GameSpot said it lacked Pokémon's "cutesy, over-merchandised appeal" but praised its play.
  • It sold about 2.35 million copies in Japan, but only about 60,000 in North America by April 2000.
