Overview

Chase H.Q. (1988) is Taito's police driving game, in which the player catches fleeing criminals and rams their cars until they stop.

Deep Dive

Officer Tony Gibson and partner Raymond Broady drive a black Porsche 928. Each of the five levels gives 60 to 70 seconds to reach the criminal, with forks in the road where the wrong turn costs time. Nancy at Chase HQ radios in at the start of each level.

Developer Story

Taito released it in Japan in September 1988, and it was Japan's highest-grossing dedicated arcade game of 1989. Ocean converted it to home computers, and Taito made versions for the Famicom, Game Boy, Master System, TurboGrafx-16 and Game Gear.

Did You Know?

  • Nancy's radio frequencies are mostly in the 2-metre amateur radio band.
  • Ocean's home computer versions topped the UK chart at Christmas 1989.
