Overview

Asterix (1992) is Konami's two-player arcade beat 'em up based on the French comics, in which Asterix and Obelix fight side by side.

Deep Dive

Besides punches, kicks and claps, each hero has a charged spinning-arm attack, released once his face turns red, which is the only way to beat the strongest bosses. Downed enemies can be picked up: Asterix whirls them overhead and Obelix slams them into the ground. Dogmatix sometimes brings a Magic Potion or a roast boar for brief invincibility.

Developer Story

Masaaki Kukino, who had designed Haunted Castle, directed it, with Hitoshi Akamatsu and Yuko Ito programming. It ran on a 68000 with a Z80 for sound.
