1985 · Vertical Shooter · Arcade
TwinBee (1985) is Konami's two-player "cute 'em up", in which bells shot out of clouds change colour to give different power-ups.
Player one flies TwinBee and player two WinBee, with separate buttons for air shots and ground bombs. Shooting a bell changes its colour: yellow for points, white for a twin cannon, blue for speed, green for copies of the ship and red for a barrier. Lose both arms and an ambulance comes to repair them, but only once; the two ships can also line up for stronger attacks.
Konami released it in arcades in February 1985, followed by Famicom and MSX versions in 1986, with music by Shigeru Fukutake and Yoshinori Sasaki. It is credited with Sega's Fantasy Zone as an early cute 'em up and began the TwinBee series.
