Overview

Toki (1989) is TAD Corporation's arcade platform shooter, in which a tribesman turned into an ape spits energy balls to rescue Princess Miho from the witch doctor Vookimedlo.

Deep Dive

The witch doctor Vookimedlo turns the tribesman Toki into an ape and kidnaps Princess Miho. Toki crosses the island spitting energy balls at its creatures, against a timer on every stage and a boss at the end of each. Power-ups strengthen his spit, rabbit feet give bursts of agility, clocks add time, and a helmet protects him from attacks from above.

Developer Story

TAD Corporation released the game in Japanese arcades on 8 December 1989, with Fabtek publishing it in North America in 1990. Ocean converted it to the Amiga, Atari ST and Commodore 64 in 1991, and Sega made a reworked Genesis version, Toki: Going Ape Spit.
