1991 · Action RPG · Game Boy
Final Fantasy Adventure (1991) is Square's Game Boy action RPG, a Final Fantasy spin-off that began the Mana series, followed by Secret of Mana.
Laid out much like The Legend of Zelda, it adds experience levels, magic and a power gauge that affects attack strength. Players could even attack townspeople, unusual for a role-playing game of the time.
Koichi Ishii directed it, co-wrote it with Yoshinori Kitase and designed the characters, and Kenji Ito composed most of the music. Square released it in Japan in June 1991 and claimed 700,000 copies sold worldwide.
