Overview

Fighting Vipers (1995) is Sega AM2's 3D fighting game on the Virtua Fighter 2 engine, with armour that breaks off and walled arenas instead of ring-outs.

Deep Dive

Guard, punch and kick buttons drive combo-heavy fights. Armour can be knocked off, after which the fighter takes more damage, and the walls of the arena allow wall attacks. The nine fighters — among them Bahn, Candy, Raxel and Picky — have a Western, freeform style.

Developer Story

Sega AM2 released it on the Model 2 board in November 1995. It was very popular in Japan but less so in North America, and the 1996 Saturn version added training and playback modes. Fighters Megamix and Fighting Vipers 2 followed.

Did You Know?

  • The Saturn version added Pepsiman as a guest fighter, in Japan only.
  • Sonic the Fighters started when a programmer put Sonic and Tails into this game.
