1985 · Run and Gun · Arcade
Baraduke (1985) is Namco's run-and-gun through 48 floors, whose ending revealed its space-suited hero as a woman a year before Metroid.
A space-suited fighter — Kissy for player one, Takky for player two — works through eight worlds of five floors and a boss floor each, 48 in all. Destroying the Octy enemies opens the pipe to the next floor, and rescuing the one-eyed Paccets earns points and a chance at an extra shield in bonus games. The bosses include the Blue Worm, the Turning Eye and, in the last world, the Octy King.
Yukio Takahashi designed the game, and Namco released it in Japan in May 1985. Baraduke II followed in Japan in 1988.
