United States · Born 1961 · Composer, Audio Programmer
LucasArts' first in-house audio programmer and musician, who scored The Secret of Monkey Island and co-designed the iMUSE interactive music system.
Michael Land grew up north of Boston, studied music at Harvard and graduated from Mills College in 1987, then worked for the audio processor maker Lexicon before joining Lucasfilm Games in April 1990 as its first in-house audio programmer and musician. His first project was The Secret of Monkey Island (1990). To solve the problem of keeping music synchronised with the game, he began iMUSE, an interactive music system he designed with Peter McConnell. He scored Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (1991) with McConnell and Clint Bajakian. He went on to work on The Dig, The Curse of Monkey Island and LucasArts' Star Wars games, and returned to the series for Tales of Monkey Island (2009) and Return to Monkey Island (2022).
