Overview

Saboteur! (1985) is Clive Townsend's stealth action game, in which a ninja breaks into a warehouse, steals a disk listing rebel leaders and escapes by helicopter.

Deep Dive

An anonymous ninja infiltrates a warehouse to steal a floppy disk listing rebel leaders, then escapes through rooms, dark tunnels and a secret command centre to a helicopter. He can crouch, climb, run, punch and drop-kick, starts with a single shuriken and can pick up bricks and pipes as weapons. Guards, guard dogs and automatic guns stand in his way, his energy drains from falls and attacks, and a time limit runs throughout. The difficulty level sets the number of guards, the time limit and how many security doors are locked.

Developer Story

Clive Townsend designed and programmed the game, and Durell released it in 1985 for the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 16. Saboteur II: Avenging Angel followed in 1987.

Did You Know?

  • It reused routines and ideas from Townsend's cancelled game Death Pit.
  • Crash called it "one of the better releases on the Spectrum this year".
