Overview

Psycho Soldier (1987) is SNK's distant sequel to Athena and the first appearance of Athena Asamiya, who with Sie Kensou was among the first game characters to have a theme song.

Deep Dive

Athena and Kensou use Psycho Energy to make spheres that orbit them for defence or can be launched at enemies. A green egg-like item turns them into a Psycho Creature — a phoenix for Athena, a green dragon for Kensou. Two can play together.

Developer Story

SNK released it in Japan in March 1987. Ocean's Imagine label published ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC versions the same year.

Did You Know?

  • Athena Asamiya is a descendant of the heroine of Athena (1986).
  • Your Sinclair liked the Spectrum version's movement but not its monochrome graphics.
