Overview

Bump 'n' Jump (1982) is Data East's vehicular combat game, in which the player's car bumps rivals off the road and leaps over water and obstacles.

Deep Dive

The player drives to the end of each course, knocking enemy cars into the sides of the road or jumping on top of them, and leaping over obstacles such as water. Trucks can only be jumped on and sometimes drop debris. A jump needs at least 100 mph, and the seasons change from level to level. Finishing a level without wrecking any vehicles earns a 50,000-point bonus.

Developer Story

Data East released the game in Japan in November 1982, with Bally Midway distributing it in North America in 1983. Versions followed for the Intellivision, Atari 2600 and ColecoVision, and for the Famicom as Buggy Popper, which reached the NES under its original name in 1988.
