Editor & Podcaster · Computer Gaming World, Games for Windows: The Official Magazine, 1UP · 2000s · American
The last editor-in-chief of Computer Gaming World, America's longest-running PC games magazine, who saw it through its rebranding and closure and helped pioneer the games-magazine podcast.
Jeff Green became editor-in-chief of Computer Gaming World in 2001. Founded in 1981, CGW was the most established PC games magazine in the United States, and Green's tenure covered the period in which print games journalism came under pressure from the web. In August 2006 the magazine was relaunched in partnership with Microsoft as Games for Windows: The Official Magazine, and Green remained its editor until the final issue, dated April/May 2008, which put The Sims 3 on the cover. Green also helped move the magazine's voice into a new medium. CGW Radio began on 16 February 2006, a podcast hosted by Green with a rotating cast of editors; it became GFW Radio when the magazine changed its name and built a devoted following for its loose, conversational discussions of games and the industry. After the magazine closed Green briefly led the PC section of 1UP.com, then crossed to the other side of the industry. He started at Electronic Arts on 22 September 2008, working in The Sims division, became editor-in-chief of EA.com in October 2009 and left the company in August 2010. He later served as director of editorial and social media at PopCap Games until November 2013.
