Barry Stigler was a voice-over professional hired by Midway Games to provide announcer calls for the original Mortal Kombat (1992) arcade cabinet. The design brief was simple — short, authoritative commands to punctuate game states — but Stigler's delivery transformed utilitarian cues into cultural artefacts. The deep, reverb-drenched "FINISH HIM!" and the elongated "FATALITY!" that punctuated every gruesome finishing move were delivered with theatrical gravity that amplified the game's already extreme content into something simultaneously menacing and absurd. Those calls entered popular culture almost immediately, referenced in films, television, and casual conversation as shorthand for dramatic confrontation well beyond the game's actual audience. Stigler reprised the role across Mortal Kombat II (1993), Mortal Kombat 3 (1995), and subsequent arcade entries, and later recordings retained his voice as the template even when new sessions were needed.
