Doom

1994 · First-Person Shooter · Atari Jaguar

Overview

The Jaguar Doom was id Software's preferred console port of their landmark game — John Carmack himself was involved in the conversion, which maintained the PC original's level design better than any other console version available in 1994.

Deep Dive

When home console ports of Doom were being discussed, John Carmack expressed preference for the Jaguar as most capable of running the engine without significant compromise. The 32-bit Jaguar hardware maintained texture mapping and monster movement better than 16-bit hardware.

Developer Story

The Jaguar Doom was developed with assistance from John Carmack and published by Atari Corporation in 1994.
